Bursaries, Partial Scholarship Leiden University

Dear Teddy Setiawan,
I am writing to you as you have shown interest in studying at Leiden
University. This may mean you have already studied with us, or you may have
applied in the past and were not offered a place. Or indeed you were offered
a place, but were unable to finance your studies and had to let us know that
you couldn't come. It is also possible that you are in the process of
applying to study with us. In any case (whatever your particular situation
might be) I thought this news was important enough to send you a special
email and I hope you don't mind. The Leiden University Executive Board has
decided to launch a scholarship scheme: The Leiden University Excellence
Scholarships. This scholarship scheme will assist the most excellent
students of realising their dream to study at Leiden University. Most of the
time it will not pay all of your tuition fees, but it will cover a
substantial portion. In virtually no instance will the scholarship pay for
your living expenses (except in the case of truly remarkably excellent
students). The total scholarship fund will amount to around € 1,500,000 and
you have an opportunity to apply to this scholarship fund. However, be
careful to consider the excellence criterion, you must belong to the top 10%
of students in your class or program to be considered (a statement to that
effect or other appropriate proof will be required from your university).
There are of course deadlines to be met. You can read more about this scheme
at http://www.leidenun iv.nl/en/ studyinleiden/ lexs.htm Over the next few days
the University is closed and it will be pointless sending emails expecting
answers immediately as there are no staff in the International Office.
Generally, they will begin work again on 5 January. One danger, and we
realise this, is that our mailboxes will overflow with questions about this
scheme. We will use the questions to further improve the information
available about the system and we will not correspond with you individually
about the scheme. Instead we ask you to consult the website regularly to see
whether there are further instructions to help you along.
I will, as you can well imagine, not be able to respond to your individual
questions about this scheme. I do therefore not expect any replies to this
email. I conclude by expressing the hope that this news is something you
have been waiting for or it is good news that you may wish to share with
your friends in which case I suggest you forward this email to whoever you
like to give them the chance to study at one of the best universities in the
world (you knew this already !)
Sincerely Yours,
Dr Robert Coelen
